Singtel has incorporated payments using the new Singapore QR code (SG QR) common standard on its mobile payment service Singtel Dash.

Users of Singtel Dash are now able to pay using the SG QR specification at Singtel canteens across Singapore as well as Nanyang Technological University, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic, the operator announced.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said on Monday that the common SG QR standard will be rolled out by payment service providers nationwide next year.

Singtel announced it expects customers to be able to use the payment option at more than 1,000 merchants by the first quarter of 2018.

“We are pleased to offer more payment options on Singtel Dash. To support the government's goal of transforming Singapore into a cashless society, we will continue to enhance Singtel Dash’s features to deliver a ubiquitous mobile payments wallet for everyone,” Singtel CEO consumer Singapore Yuen Kuan Moon said.

Dash was relaunched in 2016 and is available to both Singtel and non-Singtel customers. The solution supports in-store and online retail payments and real-time local and international money transfers.

“MAS is heartened to see Singtel step up to take the lead in adopting SG QR, and expects greater proliferation of SG QR by the industry in the coming months,” MAS chief FinTech officer Sopnendu Mohanty added.
