SingTel has launched a new data center in Hong Kong, its second in the city, in an attempt to cater to the expanding needs of enterprises in the Greater China region.

The new EXPAN Tseung Kwan O Data Center, located at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in Sai Kung, is equipped with functions including redundant capacity components, independent power distribution paths for servers and IT equipment.

It is designed to fulfill the Uptime Institute Tier 3 certification and to meet the increasing demands for co-location data hosting service from enterprises in the region, SingTel said.

With the commissioning of this new center, which complements the operator’s existing data center in Shatin, SingTel’s EXPAN data center footprint will grow to 14 in the Asia Pacific region, said Goh Boon Huat, vice president of business products at SingTel Group Enterprise.

“SingTel’s customers can leverage our global hosting capabilities and Wide Area Network (WAN) to connect their offices around the world. Together with SingTel’s network of regional data centers, Tseung Kwan O Data Centre enables MNCs to diversify their network and strengthen their geographical presence.”

The center is supported by SingTel’s fiber and cable networks. Enterprises can also leverage SingTel’s suite of managed services to enable their IT operations such as managed network solutions, unified communications, video solutions, security solutions, and systems integration, the Singaporean incumbent carrier said.

The launch of the Tseung Kwan O Data Center comes a month after IDC ranked Hong Kong, along with Singapore and Taiwan, as the top location in Asia Pacific to set up new and outsourced data centers.

According to Frost and Sullivan, Hong Kong’s data center market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.3% to $802.6 million by 2019.
