SingTel has teamed up with SDN technology vendor Viptela to bring a software-defined WAN service to customers in APAC, Europe and the US.

The operator will use Viptela's secure extensible network (SEN) platform for its SingTel ConnectPlus SD-WAN service.

SingTel and Viptela together working with multiple enterprises for production and pilot deployments, the companies said.

Viptela's SEN will be used to disaggregate services from the physical network, provide encryption and device authentication and enable network segmentation, among other applications.

SigTel Group Enterprise vice president of global products Lee Han Kheng said the service will allow businesses to take full advantages of hybrid networks.

“They will have real time control over network issues such as performance, bandwidth utilisation and security... through a centralized management console hosted on the SingTel cloud,” he said.

“The Singtel ConnectPlus SD-WAN addresses the need for businesses to simply and securely manage different networks as if they are one, and enables them to operate with greater agility and cost efficiency to gain a competitive edge.”

Viptela is a US-based vendor founded in 2012 by a team of executives from Cisco, Juniper Networks, Alcatel-Lucent and VMware.
