Singapore Internet Exchange (SGIX) has forged a partnership with Keppel Data Centres to enhance internet peering connectivity in Singapore.

As part of the partnership, SGIX has set up a point of presence within the Keppel DC Singapore 1 facility in northeast Singapore, increasing its number of internet peering points to four.

Customers of Keppel Data Centres that connect to SGIX will benefit from reduced latency and lower operating costs as well as the high-speed global interconnectivity to the services peered with SGIX.

SGIX chairman Patrick Scodeller said the company's core objective is to promote efficient internet interconnectivity in Singapore by providing a carrier-neutral peering point for internet traffic exchange.

“As SGIX has grown rapidly in tandem with the ever increasing demand for higher bandwidth and better performance, we are consistently seeking new opportunities to expand our service coverage across the country,” he said.

“Through this partnership with Keppel Data Centres, SGIX will add value to Keppel's existing suite of data center services while increasing the overall membership base for SGIX."

The development of colocation capacity, virtualized hosting and high-capacity software defined networks were identified as key areas of ICT development by Singapore's IMDA last year as part of the goal of achieving Singapore's smart nation vision.

Keppel Data Centres is a 70-30 joint venture between Keppel Telecommunications and Transportation and Keppel Land, which are both divisions of Singapore's Keppel Corporation.
