Satellite operator SES Networks revealed it was able to restore connectivity for consumer and enterprise customers of Digicel Tonga following a severe cable outage late last month.
The company provided C-band satellite backup connectivity to ensure the continuity of business critical services across the Pacific nation.
Connectivity to the Polynesian archipelago was disrupted after the Tonga Cable System subsea cable linking Tonga and Fiji was cut in two places on January 20. The suspected cause of the damage was a ship's anchor.
Digicel Tonga used SES' managed service offering to provide alternate connectivity for customers. Under the agreement with SES, Digicel uses the company's C-band beams to provide satellite-enabled, scalable IP transit trunk circuits between Fiji and Tonga.
