(BNamericas.com via NewsEdge) Handset giant Samsung plans to gradually halt production of CDMA handsets in Brazil as a result of the migration of Brazil's largest mobile operator Vivo Participações to GSM, news service IT Web reported.
Samsung reportedly said it has not received any important orders for CDMA devices since Christmas and it does foresee large orders in the future.
Vivo decided last year to migrate to GSM and started testing prepaid handsets in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in December and is now rolling out its prepaid handsets across other major cities.
The operator plans to launch postpaid GSM handsets by the end of the first quarter of 2007.
