Samsung and HPE have announced a collaboration aimed at accelerating 5G adoption by offering solutions to help operators speed up deployment.
The companies will develop joint offerings including solutions for virtual radio access networks (vRAN) and for 5G core networks.
Under the agreement, Samsung will launch a 5G vRAN solution using Samsung's vRAN software and HPE's converged edge system.
For the 5G core, the companies will initially provide an offering combining Samsung's packet core software products with HPE 5G core network function software products.
The joint offerings will be showcased at next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and will be made commercially available in the second half of the year.
Samsung EVP and head of networks Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun said leveraging the potential of 5G will require the transformation of mobile networks to an open standards based architecture that replaces proprietary edge applications with vRAN running on standard IT systems.
“Through close collaboration with HPE and leveraging Samsung’s extensive knowledge, experience, and advanced technologies like core and RAN, both companies will work towards the universal goal of enabling the vision of creating a robust 5G ecosystem,” he said.
