Simon Leung, Motorola's regional president for Asia Pacific, explains to Show Daily editor Joseph Waring the company's seamless mobility vision - linking people to information anywhere at anytime
Show Daily: What's Motorola's big focus at CommunicAsia‾
Simon Leung: A key focus for this year is how Motorola is enabling a seamless mobility lifestyle in Asia with new mobile devices; and wireless broadband solutions, services and applications.
What is top of the agenda for Asia in the second half of the year‾
There are many pockets of growth in Asia Pacific this year. On top of our agenda is the establishment of Motorola's wireless broadband solutions, devices and expertise from 3G, HSDPA to WiMAX.
For our mobile devices, we will see a strong focus on personal expression, fusing color and design to create truly unique products. We will continue to bring our award-winning design language into our entire range of handsets including our mass-market range. Motorola's newly renamed business unit, MobileME, will be focused on our Bluetooth portfolio. With more than 40% market share, MobileME is continuing to innovate through product development and partnerships with Oakley, Burton and JBL to name a few.
The top brands are gaining share mostly at the expense of the smaller makers. Do you see this trend continuing and how does Motorola plan to exploit it‾
Motorola's growth in market share in the past few quarters has been supported by strong strategies and product lines. Customers are won by innovative products in today's competitive marketplace. As such, we will continue to stay hungry and focus on our strengths in creating must-have products for today's mobile lifestyles. Our vision is to enable seamless mobility to link people to information anywhere, at anytime, via any device irrespective of technology.
What are your main objective behind your recent investments in wireless firm in China‾ Can we expect more of these in the future‾
China is one of the fastest growing telecommunications market globally. Motorola has been working with operators and regulators in China since 1987 and is firmly committed to investing, transferring technologies, and building local manufacturing and R&D capabilities in China.
The businesses that we have invested in China, as well as Motorola's R&D and manufacturing centers, represent our commitment to serve the China market better. We look forward to working closely with operators, partners and customers in developing telecommunications solutions and devices for the China market.
Back in March, Motorola predicted China would award 3G licenses this year. Any update on the announcement‾
This is ultimately a government decision. Motorola will continue to work closely with regulators and operators in China in planning the nation's wireless broadband future.
