Overall VoIP penetration among US households has increased to 3.5% or almost 3.9 million households in January, up from 2.9% six months before. According to Telephia, VoIP stands to gain a significant foothold in the market in the coming months as more and more households convert to high-speed Internet connections. The combination of good voice quality, reliability and price will also drive growth for the residential VoIP market. In terms of voice quality, 67% of early-adopter households say VoIP matches that of traditional landline service, while 19% note that VoIP provides even better quality than wired phone lines. In terms of service reliability, 71% say VoIP and traditional landlines are equally reliable, while 16% say VoIP is more reliable.
