India's Reliance Jio Infocomm has forged yet another infrastructure sharing arrangement, as it proceeds with plans to roll out a nationwide 4G network.
Reliance Jio - the telecom unit of conglomerate Reliance Industries - revealed it has signed a deal to share infrastructure with Indian incumbent Bharti Airtel.
The arrangement covers the sharing of inter and intra city fiber, subsea cable networks, towers and internet broadband services.
It has the potential to be modified in the future to also extend to 2G, 3G and 4G roaming, joint rollout of additional fiber and any other mutually benefiting areas.
Reliance Jio already signed a deal in April giving it access to capacity on Airtel's i2i subsea cable network.
Reliance Jio also has both tower sharing and fiber sharing deals in place with Reliance Communications - the telecom major owned by Anil Ambani, brother of Reliance Industries' owner Mukesh Ambani.
Reliance Jio is the only operator in India with licenses to operate 4G services in all 22 of the nation's telecom circles. In October, the Indian government approved plans to grant Reliance Jio a unified access license, which will allow it to offer voice as well as data services.
