India's Reliance Jio Infocomm is offering unlimited free Wi-Fi for the Ganesh Chaturthi Hindu festival, to help promote its LTE network ahead of the launch planned for later in the year.
Visitors to various worship sites during the 11-day festival will be able to access high-speed mobile internet services free of charge, Press Trust of India reported.
The services are being offered to help grow awareness of the company as it gears up to launch a nationwide LTE network.
The promotion will also be used to gather feedback from users about the mobile experience to help further improve services.
Reliance Jio is expected to finally launch LTE services in December, more than five years after securing a license in the BWA auctions of 2010. The company plans to establish a direct retail presence in over 1,000 stores to support its operations.
Incumbent operators expect Reliance Jio to have a disruptive impact on the telecom sector due to its data focus and the deep pockets of parent company Reliance Industries.
