India's Reliance Jio Infocomm has revealed its upcoming pan-India 4G network is shaping up to deliver real-world downlink speeds of 49 Mbps.

A company official toldPress Trust of India that the company is also achieving uplink speeds of 8-9 Mbps. Reliance Jio's current LTE set-up can achieve theoretical maximum speeds of 112 Mbps downlink.

At 49 Mbps, the company's 4G network would be 12 times faster than the average 4 Mbps peak speeds of India's 3G networks.

The official also revealed details of the services it plans to provide through its 4G network. The company is currently trialling phone and IPTV services.

Reliance Jio plans to provide outdoor CPE to customers connecting to a 4G tower, and deliver broadband and TV services to households via an Android-based set-top box. The company has secured access to 150 channels for its TV service.

Reliance Jio is the only Indian operator with a pan-Indian 4G license. The company's predecessor paid $2.76 billion for 2.3-GHz spectrum in all of India's 22 telecom circles during the 2010 BWA auction.

The operator commenced a TD-LTE rollout in July last year, and has lined up some significant network sharing deals.
