(The Statesman via NewsEdge) In a bid to promote the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked all Internet service providers to route domestic traffic within the country through NIXI.
The regulator said the move could result to a "better quality and quick service and growth of Internet service" in the country.
The TRAI also said it is making the recommendation after observing that despite having a domestic Internet exchange, most of the domestic traffic is not routed through NIXI, which in turn is "eating up most of the international bandwidth" of India.
