The global recession has prompted service providers and enterprises to look to technology to keep their heads above water, and most of these cutting-edge technologies have to do with driving revenues, keeping costs down and going green.

CommunicAsia2009, which will take place from June 16-19 at the Singapore Expo, will serve as a venue for showcasing such technologies - highlighting the resilience of Asia\'s ICT sector amid the global doom and gloom.

According to a recent IDC report, the combined telecom services market of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand is expected to hit $35.7 billion this year, 10% better than last year\'s performance.

\'The global gloom has accentuated the gleaming potential in Asia and increased the urgency in which international companies are moving into the continent,\' said Stephen Tan, chief executive at show organizer Singapore Exhibition Services.

He said CommunicAsia2009 and BroadcastAsia2009 are expected to weather the downturn and hit their targets, attracting 2,000 exhibiting companies from 65 countries and regions.

The Summit will highlight infrastructure technologies and how these can be used to boost profitability. The conference program will likewise provide updates on the latest in the ICT industry, with the help of notable speakers from companies such as IDA, Telekom Malaysia, Huawei, NTT DoCoMo, Yahoo, Juniper Networks, PT Telkom Indonesia and Thaicom Public Company.

The four-day Summit will consist of three two-day streams and five one-day forums, covering a wide range of topics useful to both incumbent and new players in the ICT industry.

The two-day streams will focus on broadband access technologies, mobile services and business models, and network enablers and architectures. The one-day forums, on the other hand, will center on satellite communications, mobile advertising, green telecoms, mobile TV and entertainment and IPTV.

Opening the show is Scott Goodstein, the external online director for US President Barack Obama\'s presidential campaign. In his visionary address, he will discuss what a powerful tool mobile marketing is, with measurable ROI, as was evident in the Obama Mobile campaign.
His presentation will focus on how telcos and mobile operators can use mobile marketing to boost their brand share in the market, as well as to capture greater revenues by offering effective mobile marketing services and packages to enterprise customers, thus adding value to their clients\' marketing plans.

Apart from the information-packed talks and forums, CommunicAsia participants can also look forward to exhibits and demos of the latest technologies in the industry, including IPTV, mobile entertainment, Wimax, navigation and location-based services, satellite, femtocell, e-government, green IT and mobile Internet.

Big-ticket exhibitors include BlackBerry, Google, Harris, Huawei, LG, Navteq, Samsung, Yahoo and ZTE.

Media industry developments will also take center stage at BroadcastAsia 2009, which will take place at the same time as CommunicAsia 2009.

This show will feature emerging technologies such as broadcast-to-handheld/mobile TV, digital media asset management, high-definition technology, IPTV, mobile broadcasting and professional audio technology.

To be featured for the first time in the show is digital signage technology, which reflects the growing global demands of the retail, hospitality, transportation and entertainment industries for a dynamic medium to captivate their audiences.

Digital signage, a form of electronic display installed in public spaces, is seen replacing conventional printed posters with state-of-the-art digital display panels.
