Qualcomm’s chief operating officer Len Lauer has resigned to take a CEO post at another company, the wireless technology firm has announced.

It did not say who Lauer’s new employer would be. Lauer, who will exit Qualcomm on December 31, joined the company three years ago from Sprint, where he was also COO.

“During the past three years, Len's leadership and expertise have helped Qualcomm expand business opportunities and further strengthen its relationships with operators and content providers. We are thankful to him for his service and wish him the best as he pursues new opportunities,” said chairman and CEO Paul Jacobs.

Following Lauer’s departure Qualcomm’s MEMSTechnologies group will now report to Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice-president and president of Qualcomm CDMATechnologies (QCT), the company said.

“With the display business entering an important phase of expansion, close partnership with QCT will help QMT as they work with device manufacturers and tackle the challenges of commercializing, scaling and evolving the mirasol product line.”

The other services businesses would report to Qualcomm president Steve Altman, the statement said.
