(Times of India via NewsEdge) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a regulation to curb unsolicited commercial calls.
The regulation directs the setting up of a national do not call registry (NDNC) containing a list of telephone numbers of subscribers who do not want to receive unsolicited commercial communications, including SMS.
The National Informatics Centre has been authorized to install the NDNC within 3 months and operate and maintain it.
Once the registry is operational, telephone subscribers, both landline and cellular, who do not wish to receive unsolicited calls can register their telephone number with their telecom service provider for inclusion in the NDNC.
The telemarketer will have to verify calling telephone numbers list with the NDNC registry before making a call.
The defaulter telemarketer can face disconnection of telecom service if he fails to comply.
