Sony has told owners of older models of its PlayStation 3 console to turn off their machines because of a bug in the PlayStation Network.

A bug in the PS3 clock has caused the network to go off the air since Sunday, although some tweets early Tuesday said the problem had been fixed.

The company said in a blog post that a bug in the system clock affected the older “Fat” models.

“We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours,” the statement said.

“In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.”

The PlayStation Network has millions of users worldwide, playing games like Fifa, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty over the internet.
