Australian mobile carrier Optus has unveiled a bundle for its 4G prepaid customers aimed at encouraging them to make greater use of social media like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Michael Smith, MD of marketing at Optus said the SingTel-owned operator “has seen an incredible amount of interest” from its customers since the launch of 4G service earlier this year.

“We’re excited about the range of offerings that are launched today to meet the demand for prepaid 4G, so prepaid customers can tweet, post, like and share on Optus 4G speeds this holiday season,” Smith said in a statement released Monday.

The Optus 4G prepaid inclusions, with unlimited voice calls to Optus mobiles, unlimited standard SMS to Australian mobiles, as well as unlimited mobile access to social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, eBay, Foursquare and LinkedIn.

Optus 4G is live in selected areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane CBD, Surfers Paradise, Perth and the Greater Newcastle and Hunter regions, and will be extending to other major metropolitan areas across Australia.

The Optus prepaid social is available with five data plans with prices ranged from the entry package of A$30 ($31.2) for 500MB of data to A$100 for 5GB of data.

Optus prepaid customers can also choose from two 4G prepaid mobile broadband device bundles, a 4G USB dongle as well as a 4G portable WiFi modem that can wirelessly connect up to ten devices. Device bundles will be available for order online from this Friday, November 16, the carrier said.

Separately, Optus is planning to close its fixed-wireless ISP Unwired on February 28, 2013. In a letter to customers, Optus said it would shut down the Unwired network and is offering a number of alternatives in the form of 3G and 4G wireless broadband plans, The Register reports.
