Optus Business, the ICT services arm of SingTel-owned Optus, has signed a contract worth A$115 million ($81 million) with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) in Australia to supply end-to-end telecom and managed IT services.
Under the three-year agreement, Optus will integrate the telecom services of the former Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection into the newly integrated DIBP.
“Optus will be providing design and implementation support as the Department [DIBP] optimizes their telecommunications infrastructure, data centers, telephony platforms and their ICT needs moving forward,” Optus Business managing director John Paitaridis said.
Optus will support close to 15,000 IP handsets, more than 1,000 wireless access points and nearly 1,000 LAN switches, CCTV and radio, all supported by an integrated, managed help desk.
This is underpinned by Optus’ high-performance multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) carriage network, satellite communications and mobile data to approximately 200 sites throughout Australia, Paitaridis added.
The deal is Optus’ latest contract with Australian government. In addition to DIBP, Optus also provides ICT services to a number of Federal Government agencies including the Australian Taxation Office and the Department of Agriculture.
