Optus has extended its cloud partnership with Cisco to resell the latter’s data virtualization technology for Optus Business customers in Australia.

The partnership, announced on Monday, will see the Singtel-owned telco combine its own cloud capabilities with Cisco’s data virtualization tools.

Integrating with Optus Business’ existing intelligence and data analytics tools, the Cisco Data Virtualization technology will enable customers to collate structured and unstructured data, from the transactional to social, which the telco said promises a better understanding of the customer experience.

The technology also addresses data management and storage complexities, such as security and agility, and data available to multiple user profiles.

“We are excited by the compelling benefits this technology can offer our customers in Australia, which have been well demonstrated in the US market, particularly in the financial services industry,” said Jennie McLaughlin, head of business applications and solutions at Optus Business.

“Data virtualization’s streamlined approach reduces complexity and saves money, due to the reduction of data replication and consolidation.”

Optus Business currently has eight certified Cisco Data Virtualization engineers, with several others set to commence the technical training.

The partnership is Optus’ latest collaboration with Cisco on cloud services. The telco in March announced it would partner with Cisco to offer unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS).

In April, Optus also announced it had partnered with Microsoft to expand its cloud capabilities with Azure-enabled cloud services.
