NTT subsidiary NTT Data has revealed plans to buy Dell's Services unit in a deal worth over $3 billion.

The Japanese IT services provider plans to use the acquisition to build its IT and digital business portfolio and significantly expand its presence in North America.

Dell Services is an IT services provider focused on infrastructure, cloud and application services as well as business process outsourcing. The company concentrates on the healthcare and life sciences, banking, financial services and insurance verticals.

As part of the acquisition Dell Services data centers in the US, UK and Australia will be added to NTT's footprint of 230 data centers worldwide.

“NTT Data is pleased with the unique opportunity to acquire such high-caliber talent, and a corporate culture that shares common values with NTT Data, with emphasis on ‘Clients First,’ ‘Foresight,’ ‘Teamwork,’ and a commitment to innovation,” NTT Data Corporation CEO Toshio Iwamoto said.

“Welcoming Dell Services to NTT DATA is expected to strengthen our leadership position in the IT Services market and initiates an important business relationship with Dell.”

The deal is still subject to the usual closing conditions including regulatory approvals. Once complete, NTT Data Inc CEO John McCain will take responsibility for leading the combined business.
