NTT Com has set up shop in Myanmar, opening a local branch office in Yangon – the first in the country from a foreign telecom company.

The telecom giant said the branch will provide ICT solutions to multinational companies in collaboration with local carriers.

NTT Com said the country has strong growth potential, especially since returning to civilian government in March 2011 following nearly 50 years of military rule.

Indeed, the announcement comes weeks after Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) revealed it has been granted permission to provide international voice and data services to the market.

Like NTT, HGC will pursue a collaboration strategy, offering services in conjunction with an authorized Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) representative.

NTT Com already provides solutions to much of the Greater Mekong subregion, including cloud services, international and local networks, data centers, system integration and security.

After opening its Myanmar branch, the company now has offices in seven cities in five of the six countries within the subregion.
