NTT Comm subsidiary NTT America will deploy the Cisco ASR 9000 Series aggregation services router on its next-generation IP network.
The operator has selected the router to support demand for high-definition video from its clients in markets such as the entertainment and media industries.
The router will also be used to provide carrier-grade IPv6 capability, as NTT America's global IP network has been running both IPv4 and IPv6 worldwide since 2001.
Cisco's ASR 9000 is designed to deliver a per-slot capacity of up to 400Gbps in a carrier Ethernet configuration, and can scale up to 6.4Tbps.
