NTP, the company that won a patent case against RIM over wireless email technology used in the BlackBerry, has filed similar suits against many of the biggest names in mobile.

NTP, which won a $612 million settlement from RIM in 2006, has named Apple, Google, Motorola, Microsoft, HTC and LG in the suit, FT.com reported.

The suits, covering eight wireless email patents, were filed in federal court in Virginia, where its long-running case against RIM was heard.

The suit ended with a settlement when NTP was able to launch an injunction that could have effectively closed down RIM’s US business, the FT said.

NTP says the trial judge case had determined that the company was entitled to royalties of 5.7% of RIM’s hardware sales.

RIM, Nokia, Visto and Good Technology today license NTP’s email technology.
