Nokia Siemen Networks has secured two network upgrade deals in the Asia Pacific.

The Finnish-German company signed a contract with Malaysia’s Celcom for a network upgrade and expansion deal in in the country’s bustling Klang Valley.

The contract will see NSN improve Celcom’s network to provide HSPA+ with theoretical speeds up to 42 Mbps in the area. The deal will see NSN upgrade Celcom’s network management system and deliver LTE-ready radio access equipment, Flexi Multiradio base stations.

Celcom’s CEO Dato Sri Shazalli Ramly said the network upgrade would help Celcom cater to increasing traffic demand from smartphone users, as the carrier seeks to grow its customer base by 30% by year-end.

Malaysia’s U Mobile had earlier this year tapped ZTE for a two-stage network expansion of 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ services to the central, western and northern parts of the country.

NSN also secured a fixed network capacity expansion deal with South Korea’s SK Telecom.

SK Telecom selected NSN to increase its network capacity by four times to 40G transmission, with preparation for a future transition to 100G.

NSN will provide its hiT 7300 dense wavelength division multiplexing platform for the project, where different wavelengths of light would transport data down the same optical fiber, each capable of carrying 40G of data.

This method of deployment utilizes SK Telecom’s existing DWDM network infrastructure, purportedly supporting the upgrade more cost efficiently.
