Indian mobile carrier Idea Cellular has commissioned Nokia Siemens Networks to build and manage its HSPA networks in four circles, as well as supply equipment.

Idea spent 57.69 billion rupees this year to acquire 3G spectrum in 11 of India’s 22 telecom zones and has earlier said it would spend $675 million over the next 12 to 15 months to rollout premium services.

Under the contract, NSN will supply its Flexi multiradio base stations, mobile packet core and mobile backhaul solution, as well as unified network management, monitoring and optimization based on its NetAct system.

As part of the deal, NSN will also provide network implementation, project management, care and maintenance services.

Additionally, NSN provide support to the operator in managing its 3G network, the company said in a statement.

The company does not disclose the financial details of the deal – its latest 3G deal in India.

NSN had also received 3G network deployment contracts from Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel and Tata Teleservices.
