Sanjay Goel to lead Nokia’s global services unit

Nokia has appointed Sanjay Goel (pictured left) as president of global services and member of the Group Leadership Team (GLT) from April 1. He will report to Nokia president and CEO Rajeev Suri.

Goel succeeds Igor Leprince, who is leaving the Finnish vendor to pursue opportunities outside the company, Nokia said in a statement.

Leprince (pictured right), who has held various positions at the company since he joined in 2007, will stay on for a transitional period to support Goel.

"I want to thank Igor for his contributions to Nokia. I warmly welcome Sanjay to the GLT, and look forward to working together to further strengthen Global Services," said Rajeev Suri.

Goel is currently head of global services sales and has worked at Nokia for 10 years.

As of April 1, Nokia’s GLT will consist of Rajeev Suri, Basil Alwan, Hans-Juergen Bill, Kathrin Buvac, Ashish Chowdhary, Joerg Erlemeier, Barry French, Sanjay Goel, Bhaskar Gorti, Federico Guillén, Gregory Lee, Kristian Pullola, Marc Rouanne, Maria Varsellona and Marcus Weldon.

Goel’s appointment comes the same day Nokia announced the new Photonic Service Engine 3 (PSE-3) chipset, which it says can take optical channels very close to the maximum theoretical capacity.

According to Nokia, the new chipset allows maximum capacity over any distance and on any fiber, the company said, increasing capacity by up to 65% over currently deployed networks at a 60% lower power consumption.
