Nokia announced Tuesday that it will release its Lumia 1020 in Hong Kong by end of September, as the Finnish handset maker rolls out its latest camera-centric smartphone to the booming Asian markets.

Nokia said the new phone will go on sale on September 28 at an unsubsidized price of HK$6298 ($812), with pre-orders beginning on September 18.

Vlasta Berka, Nokia Pan Asia’ vice president of sales and marketing, said Hong Kong is the second Asian market after China to launch the Lumia 1020.

Nokia launched the Lumia 1020 in July, touting the smartphone as the best camera phone available on the market.

The phone includes a 41-megapixel PureView camera, which boasts of 6 physical lenses with optical image stabilization, 3X high-resolution zoom, Xenon flash for still images and LED flash for videos.

Running Windows Phone 8 OS, the 4G LTE smartphone has a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt memory.

“Consumers want to capture and share memorable experiences with their smartphone. We want to take people on a journey from capturing pictures to recording and sharing their lives,” Berka said at the launch event in Hong Kong.

“The Nokia Lumia 1020 brings new meaning to pictures and continues to strengthen Nokia’s leadership in imaging. It is the first smartphone to exceed many standalone digital cameras in terms of image quality capture ensuring users always have that perfect photo-day or night.”

Berka said global sales of the Lumia series grew 34% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter, but didn’t provide further details.

“We're very encouraged by this and satisfied with the customer response. With device like the Lumia 1020 we'll be to offer consumers with fantastic ecosystem as well as the innovation services.”

Nokia last week announced a deal to sell its devices business to Microsoft for $7.2 billion. The company will retain control of NSN, its services operations and its patent portfolio.
