New World Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to prepare its optical network for the introduction of blazingly fast 100-G technology, enabling the operator to offer a growing variety of enterprise services to the customers.

“Alcatel-Lucent will help expand the capacity, performance and flexibility of our network to address the rapid growth in demand for high speed data transmission, especially suitable for telecommunications, banking and finance, as well as media industries in Hong Kong,” said Johnny Cheung, EVP of New World Telecom.

At the heart of the Alcatel-Lucent-provided solution is the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), which offers high capacity and performance. The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS also gives service providers considerable flexibility by re-allocating bandwidth automatically to address any faults that occur in the network. This means that New World Telecom and its customers can count on the network to deliver exceptional reliability.

“Demand for every kind of data service is exploding in the Asia-Pacific region, and New World Telecom is moving quickly to capitalize on this demand. By upgrading their optical network to support very high speeds, they have taken a bold step to ensure that customers in Hong Kong can take advantage of one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful optical networks,” said Rajeev Singh-Molares, President of Alcatel-Lucent in the Asia-Pacific Region.

By employing the 100G-capable 1830 PSS, New World Telecom will be able to support a mixture of 10G, 40G and 100G channels on the same fiber pair, which means the network will need no re-engineering, protecting initial investment, driving down operational costs and power consumption significantly.
