Building on the success of App Planet at Mobile World Congress in February, the GSMA is introducing the developer-focused program at Mobile Asia Congress running from November 17-18.

Designed to bring together the many critical elements of the broad mobile application ecosystem together in one location, App Planet will feature:

  • App Zone Exhibition, a dedicated area within the Mobile Asia Congress exhibition that will focus on the latest technology from the fast-moving apps industry;
  • App Developer Conferences, produced and developed by App Planet ADC partners, focusing specifically on the most influential mobile platforms in the market;
  • App Planet Forum, a dedicated, day-long track of thought-provoking presentations and panel sessions on industry trends in mobile applications; and
  • App Networking Lounge, where networking and business development will help to further define the future of this exciting mobile segment.

To date, 13 heads of the region's biggest players in the mobile communications sector have confirmed as keynote speakers in the two-day conference to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Among those who will be doing keynotes are Axiata managing director, president and group CEO Jamal Ibrahim; Bharti Airtel CEO Sanjay Kapoor; China Mobile president and CEO Li Yue; China Unicom president Lu Yimin; CSL CEO Joseph O'Konek; KDDI president and chairman Tadashi Onodera; KT Mobile Business Group president Hyun-Myung Pyo; and NTT DoCoMo president and CEO Ryuji Yamada.

In the "Changing Business Realities in the World of Mobile Applications" track, keynote speakers will talk about the proliferation of mobile app stores and thresh out how these have changed the way industry players interact with users and how players should structure their future business models to take advantage of the app boom.

LTE as the possible answer to network overload will be the main point to be tackled in the track titled "LTE - The Dawn of a New Era for Voice and Data Services." Here, thought leaders will share their plans for LTE deployments and the challenges that these rollouts entail, their take on the impact of LTE on data services, and the best way to offer voice services in the LTE era.

In the "Operator Strategies in High-Growth Markets" session, leading Asian players will discuss their growth strategies, the roadblocks that they foresee along the way, and their plans on how to generate value for their businesses in the future.

In the session dubbed "What Does the Future Hold for Mobile Internet," speakers will not only talk about driving monetization in the constantly evolving world of the mobile web, but also about issues such as privacy and security that the industry has to address.

In "A Vision of 2020 - Asia's Influencers of Innovation," key players will share the work they are doing to shape the innovative products, technologies and services of the future in relation to key growth areas such as applications, internet and mobile broadband.

Apart from the five keynote sessions, the conference will also feature breakout sessions on topics such as applications, advertising, consumer electronics and devices, embedded mobile, media and entertainment, m-government, m-health, mobile broadband, mobile internet and mobile money.
