According to a recent survey by Kroll Ontrack, just a quarter of respondents who had recently experienced data loss are looking to the Cloud for future data protection.
Nearly 60% of respondents who had experienced data loss cited the external hard drive as preferred backup method, while the remaining 13% of respondents who did not seek a backup solution cited time and expense associated with research and administration as a barrier to backup adoption.
The survey, which covered 600 recent Ontrack Data Recovery customers from North America (27%), Europe (58%) and Asia Pacific (15%), saw a third of respondents experiencing personal data loss, with two thirds having lost business data.
Results further showed that while 60% of respondents had a backup solution in place at the time of data loss, loss prevention had failed as the backup was either not current or not operating as it should.
Additional findings showed the external hard drive backup method remains the most used and sought after approach to backup for both business and personal data. 60% of respondents indicated utilizing an external drive, with 15% leveraging the cloud and 15% using tape backup.
