MEASAT (Booth 1T3-01) and Ericsson (Booth 5M8-01/02) have begun trials to provide live ultra high-definition TV over MEASAT's satellite network as part of efforts to support UDHTV across Asia.
The trials are being conducted on the MEASAT-3 satellite.
Jarod Lopez, VP for broadcast sales at MEASAT, said: "UHDTV will take consumer expectations for high-quality picture to a new level. We will ensure that we have the infrastructure in place to distribute and broadcast 4K content over satellite in a reliable and robust manner."
Ericsson will provide its AVP 2000 contribution encoders and RX8200 advanced modular receivers.
Giles Wilson, head of TV compression business at Ericsson said: "This trial with MEASAT demonstrates how content providers and broadcasters can simply and effectively build their UHDTV content libraries so that they are ready for commercial launch in the coming years."
Ericsson's solution uses MPEG-4 AVC encoding technology allowing the same devices to be re-used for HD and SD contribution applications. Ericsson has also employed its Simulsync technology to ensure that the delivery of the UHDTV images remains perfectly in sync.
