(Associated Press via NewsEdge) Maxis Communications, Malaysia's No. 1 mobile phone firm by subscribers, reported a 28% rise in third-quarter net profit, helped by its Indian operations.
The company said its net profit for the three months ended September 30 climbed to 503 million ringgit ($140 million) from 392 million ringgit ($107.6 million) in the same period a year earlier.
Maxis' revenue rose 25% on year to 1.97 billion ringgit ($547.2 million), with its Indian Aircel unit contributing 247 million ringgit ($68.6 million), or 12.5% to group revenue.
Domestic business was Maxis' largest sales contributor, making up 87% of its revenue. Maxis added 388,000 local subscribers for a total of 8.86 million subscribers, up from 8.47 million in the previous quarter.
