Mastercard has introduced a range of data-driven digital services tailored for mobile operators as it seeks to ramp up its alliances with the mobile industry.

The payments giant is working with mobile operators to harness the power of data analytics to deliver value and personalized experiences to consumers.

In addition, the company is allowing mobile operators to build on its digital payments platform Masterpass to deliver a more seamless mobile payment experience, and is offering a range of solutions including direct carrier billing and QR based payments.

Mastercard is involved in a number of mobile collaborations across the Asia-Pacific region, the company said.

In Vietnam, the company's collaboration with Military Bank has enabled Viettel to offer more than three million consumers access to physical and virtual prepaid cards.

In Taiwan, the company worked with Chunghwa Telecom to introduce contactless payment services based on the digital Hami Wallet. In Indonesia, Mastercard and the Red Cross worked with Indosat Ooredoo to distribute funds to beneficiaries via their digital wallet.

“Mobile network operators are evolving to be both tech companies and financial providers by integrating digital payment options such as mobile wallets and in-app purchases, with data insights that enable them to make smarter decisions. Mastercard sees great promise in partnering with MNOs to widen their pool of services,” Mastercard SVP of digital payments and labs Benjamin Gilbey said.

“This is especially beneficial in Asia Pacific where many emerging markets are still largely underserved and unbanked while consumers in developed markets are demanding real-time access to quick and convenient payment experiences.”
