Malaysian mobile operator webe digital has deployed and launched a virtual evolved packet core (vEPC) network using equipment from ZTE.

Telekom Malaysia subsidiary webe (formerly Packet One Networks), started rolling out LTE in 2014. The operator introduced an unlimited data, SMS and voice call package in 2016, straining the operator's existing EPC network.

ZTE was selected as the exclusive supplier for the vEPC deployment, and supplied a full range of systems including the underlying hardware, virtualization platform and upper layer applications.

The vendor designed a solution that allows vEPC and legacy EPC networks to be combined into an elastic hybrid network capable of on-demand deployment, as well as customized services tailored to webe's needs.

“ZTE is happy to provide customized professional EPC equipment and services to address webe’s ongoing business needs,” said Xu Ziyang, president of ZTE's telecom cloud and core network products business.

“The introduction of virtualization technology will make webe’s network resource management more optimal, efficient and flexible. This will also make it more convenient to add new network functions and products, enhancing user experience.”
