Kuala Lumpur International Airport has upgraded its backbone network infrastructure to deliver improved wired and wireless Internet access to service providers, tenants and passengers.
The infrastructure supports more than 150 areas within the KLIA complex including the new Low Cost Carrier Terminal, located some 15 kilometers from the Main Terminal Building.
'The deployment of the new high-end network at KLIA will enable Malaysia Airports to better serve not only the airline but the KLIA community as well,' said Bashir Ahmad, managing director of Malaysia Airports.
The project, implemented by Malaysia Airports through its subsidiary Malaysia Airport Technologies (MA Tech), called for the rollout of 10 Gigabit Ethernet solutions to replace the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network that previously supported KLIA's Total Airport Management System.
The deployment has increased the airport network's capacity from 622 Mbps to 10 Gbps and equip it for future service expansion.
'To ensure that the infrastructure is scalable, we invested in a network that is modular from an architecture point of view. Now we will be able to continuously upgrade KLIA's network performance by adding new advanced technology without redesigning or disrupting the newly implemented network architecture," Ahmad added.
Officials also said the implementation will enable Malaysia Airports to create a single integrated digital community in KLIA, as opposed to other airports, which have separate proprietary networks for different systems."”Enterprise Network Asia
