Singapore M1 is suffering an ongoing network outage that apparently began in the early hours of the morning. M1 announced at about 6am local time that its 3G network was suffering an outage due to a power problem and suggested that customers use its 2G network instead.
But four hours later, it seems like the network is still down in many places, with 2G and 4G LTE services also being affected.
Over 500 comments venting frustration, anger and a continued inability to connect or make calls are present on the M1 Facebook page. It appears that some areas have had connectivity restored at around 8am but the outage is still continuing for many.
In December Singapore’s regulator, the Infocomm Development Agency, slapped an S$10,000 ($8,900) fine on all of the city-state’s three telcos for failing to meet quality of service standards.
In September 2012, SingTel was fined S$400,000 ($321,000) for a major 3G outage that occurred in May.
