Acuityâ„¢

Lucent Acuityâ„¢ is a simplified, cost efficient, flexible architecture. Acuityâ„¢ leverages efficiency and cost effectiveness of an Ethernet/IP optimized infrastructure. Acuityâ„¢ supports End-to-end service aware resource management with centralized control, open interfaces that support both IMS and non-IMS service/application domains, and Consolidates multiple elements, for both wireline and wireless infrastructure, to reduce network cost, complexity, and operations cost. A key Acuity element is Lucent's Resource Manager, (RACF).

The demo will illustrate RACF functions in a live IMS network. A number of scenarios involving end user requests for voice and data sessions will be shown and the effect of RACF will be demonstrated.

The demo will highlight Bell Labs patents and awards in this area.

ITU-T has been working on the Resource and Admission Control Function (RACF), which acts as the arbitrator for QoS transport resource negotiation and reservation between Service Control Functions (SIP and non-SIP applications) and Transport Functions based on user profiles, SLAs, operator network policy rules, service priority, and resource availability within access and core networks. Key functional elements involved in the above are the Policy Decision Functional Entity (PD-FE) and the Transport Resource Control Functional Entity (TRC-FE).

CDMA Rev A

The position will demonstrate fast file transfers across a real Rev A airlink at speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps on the forward link and 1.8 Mbps on the reverse link. The same files will be passed across a Rev 0 airlink to prove the superior quickness and timing.

IMS - Service Broker

This demonstration shows how IMS can work with telephony and non-telephony elements. For example, the demonstration will show IPTV Caller-ID on TV with call handling - enabled by IMS Service Broker. The demo shows SB/IP-TV inter-working to display Caller ID, Reject the Call via Remote, Send Call to Voice Mail via Remote, and Accept the Call, all the ability to accept Microsoft Outlook Conference Reminders with Click to Dial via Remote. Equipment involved: Laptop, Set top box, Router, a couple of SIP phones.

Network Transformation Services

The position area will include a PPT presentation focusing on the intricacies of migrating to an IMS-based network. It includes information on the five inter-related dimensions of migration as well as possible migration paths for today's service providers. Also available at the booth will be the recently published whitepapers: 'Securing IMS Networks', 'IMS Early Adopters - Lessons Learned', 'The Need for IMS Solution Management' and 'Migrating from Legacy to IP Network Infrastructure in Carrier Networks.'

Base Station Router

We will have a live demonstration as well as a presentation. The live demonstration will be over our CDMA demonstration system and will show mobile to mobile video.

Thes presentation will provide a technology neutral view into Lucent's Base Station Router solution and it's role in an all-IP network architecture. The presentation will discuss how the BSR:

  • Was designed to simplify and flatten mobile network architectures
  • Overcomes key challenges of delivering high-bandwidth, low latency 3G services
  • Allows operators to cost-effectively deliver high-speed data and VoIP applications
