South Korea's LG U+ has launched a brand new technology designed to address blackspots on its LTE network introduced by carrier aggregation.
The company has introduced Cloud Digital Unit (Cloud DU) technology to improve service quality in the blind spots of its base stations, the Korea Times reported.
The technology will follow other cutting-edge network technologies including tri-band LTE-A and uplink cooperative multipoint (CoMP) that use different LTE carriers, the paper quotes LG U+ service development division head Lee Sang-min as saying.
LG U+ is using 800-MHz, 2.1-GHz and 2.6-GHz spectrum for its tri-band LTE-A network. But the difference between the three bands causes interference between base stations at particular blind spots, undermining network quality.
Cloud DU is designed to address these issues by connecting digital information processing units at different base stations via a cloud network.
LG U+ developed Cloud DU in collaboration with Huawei last year, and now plans to implement the technology over its nationwide LTE network.
Lee said LG U+ will continue to seek to play a leading role in developing new LTE technologies, as well as the core technologies that will constitute the upcoming 5G standard.
