Garmin-Asus, an alliance between Garmin and AususteK Computer, showcased its n¨¹vifone line of HSDPA handsets designed to link navigation functions to common applications.

The company said the nuvifone line is designed with location-based services at its core. It links navigation functions to frequently used applications such as calendar, contacts and email. Both models have Garmin’s satellite navigation capability and come preloaded with maps and points of interest for North America, Europe, Asia, or other regions.

The M20, the first n¨¹vifone powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with enterprise email, combines a 3.5G/tri-band GSM phone with Wi-Fi connectivity and supports downloads speeds of 7.2 Mbps. It features a 2.8-inch TFT touch display, a full QWERTY soft keyboard and 4G or 8G of built-in memory.

The quad-band G60 supports 3.6-Mbps download speeds and has a 3.55-inch display.

The two handsets also include Ciao!, an LBS app that helps users stay up to date on their friends’ whereabouts and status by linking location-centric social networks.
