South Korea's KT has entered a partnership with Hong Kong headquartered IPTV-based entertainment company MVI Systems to offer joint artificial-intelligence based smart hotel services.

Under the agreement, KT plans to link its voice recognition service platform GiGA Genie Hotel with MVI's IPTV-based information and entertainment solutions.

Through the collaboration, the companies plan to enable the use of voice-activated room automation, robot-delivered amenities, Korean pop culture content and other smart services by the end of 2019.

Service models for the combined platform will be developed and tested during the first half of the year.

The partnership is initially aimed at serving hotels in Asia-Pacific an the Middle East. KT and MVI Systems plan to conduct joint R&D aimed at exploring further joint business projects and opportunities.

KT is already providing its GiGA Hotel platform to a number of luxury hotels in Seoul, where it is powering AI-based services for hotel information, integrated room control and smart concierge services available in Korean and English. Services in Chinese and Japanese will be available soon.

“We are thrilled to be working with KT, a global innovation leader, on providing AI-driven guest services for hotels,” MVI managing director Anke Gill said.

“By linking our respective platforms, we will be able to provide a winning formula for hotels to extend meaningful AI-based solutions that will contribute to a ‘friction-less’ guest experience.”
