Japan-based KDDI has revealed plans to set up shop in Cambodia in a bid to expand its corporate customer base in the Southeast Asia region.

KDDI will open its KDDI Singapore Phnom Penh branch on October 1, the telecom and IT service provider said in a statement.

The operator said the expansion has been motivated by Cambodia's high economic growth rate, the establishment of the Southern Economic Corridor highway linking Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and the proactive measures being taken in these countries to attract foreign companies.

Due to these factors more and more companies are expected to expand into the area, creating fresh demand for IT and network services.

The new branch will provide factories and offices with services including construction, maintenance and operation of network infrastructure, as well as system integration services and IT consulting.

KDDI plans to strengthen its business provision system for corporate customers by establishing offices for each country in the Southern Economic Corridor.

Once the Phnom Penh branch is operational, KDDI will have offices in 107 locations in 28 regions and 63 cities outside of Japan.
