Japan's KDDI has reported a 1.6% increase in net profit for the first half of its financial year to 373.6 billion yen ($3.27 billion) on the back of rising operating revenue.

Total operating revenue for the six months ending in September grew 5% to 2.3 trillion yen, in a result mainly attributed to rising mobile revenues as well as increased profit from business services.

Japanese consumer mobile and fixed line revenue grew 5.3% to 1.86 trillion yen as a result of the increased mobile demand.

Business services revenue meanwhile increased 4.3% to 359.03 billion yen, while VAS revenue climbed 18% to 37.62 billion yen.

KDDI's bottom line was also bolstered by increased revenue in Myanmar via its joint venture with Myanmar Post and Telecom (MPT). But total revenue from KDDI's global services business, which includes its Myanmar opertions, declined 2% to 131.01 billion yen.

For the full year, KDDI is targeting operating income of 950 billion yen, up from 913 billion in the prior financial year. The company achieved 57.1% progress towards this target in the first half with operating income of 542.5 billion yen.

The operator is meanwhile targeting operating revenue of 4.95 trillion yen, but only made 48.8% progress towards this target in the first half.
