Japanese cable operator J:COM has contracted Casa Systems to provide equipment for a nationwide rollout of a 320Mbps service.

J:COM commenced deployment of its 320Mbps service in January. The operator has selected Casa Systems' C100G CMTS product for the rollout.

J:COM GM of technology Kazuhiko Masuda said the company selected the system because of its superior channel density and support for DOCSIS 3.1.

“We highly value Casa's architecture which makes it possible to utilize the latest technology in the market today and gives us a migration path to delivering next-generation services without chassis upgrades, saving us capex and opex expenditures,” he said.

“The C100G’s ability to support both video and data made it the platform that completely conformed to the CCAP specification.”

J:COM is Japan's largest multiple system and channel operator with around 5.05 million subscribers to its cable TV, high-speed internet and telephony services. The company's network covers around 19.39 million households.
