The switch to IP leaves carriers with a problem in terms of how to connect traffic beyond data services, including good old-fashioned voice traffic. However, the change also offers carriers the opportunity for closer alliances with fixed-line operators, and the potential to bring over-the-top service providers into the fold.
IP Exchange (IPX) is the GSM Association’s solution to the problem. It sets out common specifications for end-to-end IP traffic delivery and quality of service that are designed to help operators cut costs and ease migration to 4G networks.
