EllaLink has nailed down its midpoint. The transatlantic cable system has signed an agreement with Cabo Verde Telecom to land in Praia, the capital city of the island nation. Cabo Verde sits off the coast of West Africa roughtly halfway between the the planned endpoints in Sines, Portugal and Fortaleza and Praia Grande, Brazil. CVTelecom has invested $25M in EllaLink as part of the deal. The project is expected to go live sometime in 2020.
BICS and France-IX have renewed and expanded their partnership. BICS has joined the France-IX marketplace as a seller and will be offering IP Transit, Cloud Direct access, Ethernet transport, remote peering and IP voice services to exchange members. BICS's infrastructure already helps connect the Paris and Marseille platforms for the internet exchange
Infinera and NEC's NESIC have teamed up to serve the regional Japanese provider Power Nets Japan. PNJ is using Infinera's mTera platform to scale its metro backbone, specifically to interconnect core data center sites across one of Japan's major metro areas. PNJ's network footpring originated from the country's energy utilities and these days, I believe, is run and at least partially owned by KDDI.
And up in Canada, eStruxture has won a new content provider as a tenant. Montreal-based difuze has selected eStruxture's facilities for a combination of colo, cloud, and network services. eStructure operates three data centers in Montreal and one in Vancouver. difuze offers an array of post-production, dubbing, subtitling, and claims the mantle of the largest provider of French localization in Canada.
