Indonesia's Indosat has rebranded to Indosat Ooredoo as part of an effort by majority shareholder Ooredoo to align its regional subsidiaries.

Indosat announced the rebranding along with a three-year plan with a target of becoming Indonesia's top digital operator.

With the rebranding Indosat has become the eighth operator within the Ooredoo Group to adopt the Ooredoo brand.

Qatar-based Ooredoo acquired a controlling stake in Indosat in 2009 as a part of its foray into the Asia-Pacific market. It is currently 65% owned by Ooredoo Asia, 14.29% owned by the government of Indonesia, 5.42% owned by Skagen Funds entities and 15.29% owned by the public.

Indosat's new digital strategy involves offering digitally-enhanced shops, increased online functionality and a team of digital experts offering customer support.

With the three-year strategy Indosat aims to become Indosat's top operator by digital revenue, the digital customer experience and digital brand preference.

“The Indonesian government has a strong vision to build a digital Indonesia and connect people to the digital economy. With the ambitious targets announced today, Indosat Ooredoo supports the delivery of this vision and will work to bring the benefits of digital to all,” Ooredoo chairman H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Bin Saud al Thani commented.
