An Indian court has denied bail and sent to jail five telecom executives accused of being involved in India's 2G spectrum scandal.
The executives from Unitech Wireless (now Uninor) Reliance ADAG and Swan Telecom (now Etisalat DB) are being held over allegations that they acted improperly to get their hands on telecom licenses during the 2008 2G auction, Business Standardreported.
A special Central Bureau of Investigation Court is conducting the trial and is responsible for denying bail to the executives.
Among the allegations being investigated are that Swan Telecom was at the time acting as a front company by Reliance Telecom to acquire spectrum clandestinely, that some of the accused faked documents and that at least one conspired with ousted former telecom minister A Raja to get preferential treatment.
The order to refuse bail is being appealed to Delhi's High Court.
CBI has been investigating the 2008 allocation, which Raja is accused of fixing to ensure his preferred applicants got licenses, since last year.
The executives in the docks are Unitech's former managing director Sanjay Chandra, Reliance ADAG's group MD Gautam Doshi and senior vice presidents Hari Nair, as well as Vinod Goenka, then-MD of Swan Telecom.
