Indian authorities have imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 236% on Chinese manufacturers of SDH equipment.
India's Directorate-General of Anti-Dumping & Allied Duties has imposed penalties of 236% for Wuhan-based Fiberhome, 50% for Huawei and 29% for both ZTE and Alcatel-Shanghai Bell. The Hangzhou subsidiary of Israeli firm ECI was also slapped with a 93% penalty.
The decision following a probe launched in April, arising from a complaint by India’s Tejas Networks.
The Indian commerce ministry had said in September preliminary findings showed the domestic industry had suffered material injury due to the sale of SDH transmission equipment at below cost, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The decision follows Huawei’s dumping from a major GSM contract by BSNL ten days ago, and the exclusion of Chinese vendors from network contracts in sensitive border areas.
Reporting the decision, the China Business News said it showed Chinese vendors were “continually treading on thin ice” in conducting business in India.
