Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) announced the launch of IIJ GIO Singapore Service, offering cloud computing services in Singapore.

The firm said the IIJ GIO Singapore Service enables customers to build flexible systems that meet their diverse needs, combining a rich server lineup, connection services and operation supervision services on a robust cloud-computing platform.

Prior to the launch of services in Singapore, IIJ has set up a data center in Paya Lebar, and extended IIJ's global Internet backbone network to Hong Kong and Singapore. This data center connects directly to this high-speed backbone linking Japan, the UK, the US, and Asia with high capacity lines, and IIJ provides IIJ Data Center Service, which means housing services for customers' own IT equipment, as well as Internet connectivity services.

Racks at the housing service connect directly to the IIJ cloud services, enabling customers to tap hybrid cloud environments that combine cloud computing with their own server equipment at the data center. In addition, the new service coordinates with IIJ Group's local subsidiary, IIJ Global Solutions Singapore to provide systems, network solutions, and integration tailored to local conditions. The IIJ Group strengthens international operation to allow for faster response times in outsourcing and systems integration needs.

This new expansion of IIJ's backbone network greatly enhances connectivity between Japan and Southeast Asia. The IIJ Group will continue to support IT platforms of Asia-based customers through providing cloud computing services and high quality Internet environment, as well as interconnecting among local ISP's in countries across Asia.
